Why Capable Women Struggle with Motherhood

A workshop to empower mothers who feel like they should be better at this.

Time & Location

May 26, 2026, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

The Laurelhurst Club, 3721 SE Ankeny St, Portland, OR 97214, USA

About the event

Motherhood doesn’t always feel the way we expect it to.

For many women—especially those who are capable, thoughtful, and used to figuring things out—it can feel surprisingly hard. Confusing. Even isolating.

You might find yourself thinking:

“Why does this feel so difficult?”

“Am I doing something wrong?”

“Why does it seem like everyone else is handling this better?”

This workshop is an opportunity to make sense of that experience.

We’ll explore:

  • Why motherhood can feel harder than expected

  • Why capable women often interpret that struggle as personal failure

  • And why this transition was never meant to be done alone

You’ll leave with a new understanding of what’s actually happening—and a sense of relief in knowing it’s not just you.

This is not a class on how to be a “better” mom.

It’s a space to understand your experience more clearly, feel less alone in it, and begin to shift the story you may be carrying about yourself.

This talk is for anyone who is trying for a baby, is pregnant, is a new mom, older kid mom, or anyone who is interested in learning more about the motherhood experience.

Light bites and refreshments will be served. Please bring your little ones.

About Caitlin Cunningham, owner and creator of Papillon Collective

Caitlin is the founder of Papillon Collective and a mother of two. Before motherhood, she was a high-functioning, career-driven professional who believed she could navigate anything through preparation and hard work. Motherhood challenged that belief in unexpected ways—bringing overwhelm, loss of control, and a deep sense of isolation. Now, she creates spaces where mothers can feel seen, supported, and less alone in the real experience of motherhood.
