Time & Location

Tabor Space, 5441 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97215, USA
About the event
A connected 10-week group for parents of 1 year olds and older.
Parenting Beyond the Baby Stage comes with a whole new set of challenges - big feelings, bigger personalities, and the constant dance between connection and boundaries.
This 10-week group is a place to slow down, reflect, and find support among parents walking the same path. Together, we’ll explore tools from the Positive Discipline philosophy to help you:
Understanding your child’s behavior and how to respond with calm and confidence
Setting firm boundaries in a kind way
Strengthen your connection (even in the chaos)
Build routines and rhythms that support everyone in your home
Understand your child's growing brain and how to best parent each stage
This isn’t “gentle parenting” where kids run the show - it’s about finding the balance between kindness and firmness. You’ll learn how to set boundaries that meet your needs and theirs, creating a home that feels both calm and connected.
You’ll leave each week feeling more grounded, supported, and capable - not because you’ve learned to “fix” your child, but because you’ve reconnected to the kind of parent you want to be.
We'll meet as a group Wednesdays 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Tabor Space. This group is facilitated by Certified Positive Discipline Trainer, Julia Tomes. You will receive Parenting from your Heart by Inbal Kashtan as an introduction to Positive Discipline prior to first day of class.
10 week cohort $499 / $599 for couples
Sliding scale available, please reach out to caitlin@papillon-collective to inquire.
There is no childcare coverage.
About Julia Tomes

Julia Tomes holds a Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary and Secondary Education and has worked in education in a variety of settings since 1992. She is also trained in Montessori education for the pre-primary years.
Julia has taught grades 5–8 in Oregon public schools as well as Montessori preschool, bringing curiosity, respect, and connection into every classroom. For the past 12 years, she has focused on teaching workshops and courses for parents and educators in the Positive Discipline approach as a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer.
Beyond her work with families, Julia partners with schools and administrators to create systems that are more equitable, democratic, and trauma-informed — helping communities build environments where every child can thrive.
Her most meaningful role, though, has been raising her two young adult children. Julia lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, their (visiting) kids, and their family dog.
